[...] I believe there are differences in console worlds (for example, these might be some differences when dealing with the console licenses), but generally speaking I believe the costs of a console game won’t differ much. Scott Miller said in the interview that the console version of their Prey game very little impact on the production. » previous and next posts « Previous post: Game Tunnel Magazine - Reviews, Editorials and More About Indie Games» Next post: Names Matter - How to Ruin Your Business Proposal in 2 Secs » related posts » Fraps - Easy Way to Create Game Videos» Ask Producer - Cost of Music in Games?» How to find popular game sites?» GameProducer.net Future Plans» 7 Risks in Indie Games Production» Zen and the art of recovering from a hard drive crash» Game Producer’s Role» Game Producer Responsibilities» Zen And the Art of Asking How Much Games Can Sell» How To Be A Successful Game Producer? » comments [...]

Oh? I fail to see the logic; I'm a huge fan of Duke series (exluding the fact I think Shadow Warrior is best of their BUILD engine games ;)) but maybe I'm blessed with the ability to disregard hype. I really don't know much of the game. What I know, is that I get awesome one-liners, weapons and lots of gore, that much is promised by the brand, right? ;)

I am quite certain Duke Forever will kick cojones, considering 3d Realms' track record and previous success. And I don't care how it looks like, since at least for me the game beyond the graphics is the important stuff and in that department 3d Realms has not let us gamers down in many years. In my humble opinion :)

Big thanks for Scott MIller for the insight and experience, I am truly interested by all the values and seeing the numbers in the "real game" and I also greatly respect their independecy and desire to do great stuff. And of course for gp.net for doing great job as well :)

Cheers!

Craig, better forget about Duke.

They may finish it once but it won't live up to the expectations. 10 years of hype has devastating side effects.

Interesting stuff! Referring to Craig's comment, thanks for asking about stuff that'll still be relevant months and years from now rather than tangential current events.

I've been following gameproducer for a while now and this was certainly one of the better features (and longer!). The insight into how 3D Realms approach core concept work and think about it was good food for thought, for sure. I don't know if it's within this site's mission statement ;) but I'm intrigued by this recurring 'hook' term: it seems to conciously relate marketing and the various aspects of design, and a general discussion of those connections could prove very fruitful.

(...and I've that book on order. Here's a thought for a way to make money off a blog: make any reference to a book an Amazon referral. :p)

I think they said it pretty clearly on their website:

No, you cannot pre-order the game. If you see some online store saying "We are taking pre-orders", they're just trying to get your money (they usually also make up their own supposed "insider release date info", too). There is no release date set, we are not taking pre-orders for the game. End of story.

Once we begin taking pre-orders, believe us, you'll know about it. :)

The release date of this game is "When it's done". Anything else, and we mean anything else is someone's speculation. There is no date. We don't know any date. If you have a friend who claims they have "inside info", or there's some game news site, or some computer store at the mall who claims they know - they do not. They are making it up. There is no date. Period.

YOU DIDN'T ASK ABOUT DUKE NUKEM 3D AND THE INCENTIVE TO FINISH THIS YEAR???

Holy crap man, what a mistake. It's the only question people want answered from the 3DRealms CEO, forget Prey.

Nice interview, the philosophy of Scott Miller is very inspiring. Just one problem for me, I'm not fluent in english and I don't understand what "IP" means in one of your last questions...
