Basically it was JFK (or one of his aides) who put into action getting man onto the moon in 1961 and it was done 8 years later. http://history.nasa.gov/moondec.html

That was a "vision" and many people thought that it wasn't "realistic". Was it the scientists or the visionaries who got man on the moon? I would argue that it was both - vision backed up with action. Without the vision we may have had some lovely technologies (ancient now of course) but noone on the moon. Without the technologies it would all be just a dream...

<blockquote>"This is a really offensive statement. I don’t think the scientists who got us to the moon used any sort of wishful thinking to get us there, but their own brainpower and sweatpower to figure out how to do it, firmly based in the realities of the universe."</blockquote>
Sorry if it sounded offensive, but basically: I completely agree on what you said. I don't think it was a group of scientists who thought "it's impossible to go to moon". I bet it was a group of people who thought "our goal is to get to the moon, no matter what!".

I simply meant that there are lots of "realistic" people telling how something cannot be done. Lots of people tell you how it's impossible to be a successful indie. Lots of realistic people think they "know" how things go. They know what's "realistically possible" - and I think that's limiting. That sets up a limit. I personally think setting high goals, and if you fail... you try again.

<blockquote>"To say that people who don’t believe in this and other fantasy based thinking, have no inspirtation or motivation, is sort of like a preacher telling someone he is going to hell if that person doesn’t live based on his particular supernatural beliefs."</blockquote>
Perhaps I made things sound too black and white... but I never intended it that way. I believe that realistic people do have lots of inspiration and motivation, I'm simply saying that if they set goals they "know they can handle", most likely that's where they end up being. On the other hand... if they'd had courage to set up goals that would be "impossible", they just might reach them!

<blockquote>"In sort, there is nothing wrong with keeping your beliefs realistic, while also dreaming of all the other things we can possibly do or figure out, all the other things that are amazingly real."</blockquote>

Well... you are then actually taking the next step: by dreaming and concentrating on things you possibly could do is very important. I might call those people optimistic :)

But then it wouldn't be secret anymore, right? ;)

Okay, The Secret is much about the "Law of Attraction" - and ideas surrounding it. Simply put: "like attracts like", and "you get what you focus on". Maybe it's also what Donald Trump says when he is asked about success: "Do what you love, and never quit". It's also about being "open to opportunities" and "visualising success" and that kind of stuff.

I think the movie gives an encouraging perspective on this.
