I don't need to be careful with brands. It's the brain I'm worried about...

Nikon video cams aren't so popular here (canon, sony, jvc seem to be there).

Hehe, how do you record Dolby 5.1 Surround with a single camera? O_o
Might be a bit of a marketing trick, but I don't really know.

About brands, well, brands might matter in the respect of what quality they demand from the mass production factories in china.
Two different brands might manufactuer their products on the same factory, only that the better brand will demand stricter quality from the factory pipeline.
On the other hand, I can't really tell if a brand is good at a specific product, or not. Any brand might screw up or cut corners.
For instance, I have had really bad experience with LG products, yet some people think its a really good brand.

Actually I want a Sony camera too (Sony HDR-CX11E), but not just because it's a Sony, but because it's the only camera which has FullHD movie resolution and Dolby 5.1 Surround sound recording, and SSD drive as media.

I was going to reply to yesterday's post about, "But, which camera are you going to buy? That's the important bit." I guess we can see it's not quite as plain as you made it yesterday.

Careful, though, "brands" don't forgive all sins. There was a company named "3DO" who thought that people would be loyal to a brand to a fault. So, they cranked out all these games with the name Army Men and hoped people wouldn't notice it only took 6 months to make some of them. Know where that company is now?

A large, established company may be able to get away with not giving much information and rely on the strength of the brand to keep people interested. But, that's not guaranteed.
