Good overview. When I started my game I could find very few resources on final fantasy tactics style isometric graphics. While porting my game to iOS devices I learned a LOT about how to optimize iso engines. I can now have gigantic iso maps with over 30 levels of height on an iPod touch. The art is still a major challenge for me!

As always great read. I have been a huge fan of isometric since the days of Sonic 3D in Sega Genesis.

Thanks for the resources and your own code samples they should help me a lot while learning the art of isometric game design.

Seeing isometric graphics gives me this fuzzy feeling and brings back memories of old. It's a favourite graphics style for my next project: http://bit.ly/eNuzJQ

Nice iso-intro!
